Top Tips For Caring For Your Knitted Baby Blanket to Make It Last a Lifetime

break

Congratulations on your beautiful, personalized knitted blanket from ThreadTheWord! We know you want to keep this special keepsake soft, vibrant, and cozy for years to come. That’s why we’ve put together this simple guide on how to care for your knitted blanket.

Good news! Your unique blanket arrives pre-washed and ready for snuggles, so there’s no need for an initial wash. When it is time for cleaning, following these instructions will help maintain the quality and longevity of your custom knit blanket.

Your blanket comes pre-washed, so you do not need to wash it before your first use. Here are some instructions to help you care for your new blanket:

Use a gentle machine wash with warm water (30°C or 86°F).

Wash with similar colours (we recommend washing red or pink blankets separately as those colours may bleed onto other lighter colours).

Do not bleach.

Tumble dry on low heat (delicate if available). Never wring or twist the knits, as this can ruin the fabric and the shape of a blanket.

Take extra care when ironing. Use the wool setting with plenty of steam and a pressing cloth to protect the knit.

Top Tips For Caring For Your Knitted Baby Blanket to Make It Last a Lifetime

How you dry your blanket is just as important as how you wash it:

(Optional but Recommended): Air Drying: For the absolute gentlest approach and to maximize longevity, consider laying your blanket flat on a clean, dry surface or drying rack away from direct sunlight or heat. This completely avoids any potential heat damage or stress from tumbling.

Tumble Dry Low: Use a low heat setting on your dryer. If your machine has a delicate or air-dry cycle, that’s even better. High heat can damage fibers and potentially cause shrinkage.

❌ Never Wring or Twist: Resist the urge to wring out excess water! Twisting or wringing wet knits can stretch the yarn, distort the shape of your blanket, and damage the fabric structure. Gently squeeze out excess water if needed before drying.

Dealing with Snags: If you notice a snag or pulled loop, don’t cut it! Gently try to work the loop back into the fabric from the backside using your fingers or a crochet hook.

Storage: When not in use, fold your blanket neatly and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid hanging knitted blankets for long periods, as this can cause stretching.

Frequency: Wash your personalized knit blanket only when necessary. Over-washing can cause wear over time. Spot clean small spills where possible.

Knitted from super soft 100% combed cotton, your blanket will feature a quality fabric that feels so much softer than a regular cotton. The cotton yarns are ethically sourced, and we are proud to say that our processes are environmentally friendly.
